DIY Bookshelf Dollhouse!

Greetings!

Just under two weeks ago on December 23rd at around 10 pm I decided (with the permission of my brother-in-law and sister-in-law) that I was going to make our 3 year old niece a dollhouse for Christmas.

Here it is finished, scroll down to see some of the steps!

Supplies needed:

  • Bookshelf or hutch
  • Paint
  • Paint brushes and roller
  • Tape
  • Scrapbook paper, wallpaper or drawer liner
  • Mod Podge
  • Scrap wood for walls and small nails
  • Patience

I started off with an older bookshelf I had hanging out in our garage for a couple years that I had painted a dark grey last year.  I painted the floors, walls and garage a light grey but didn't quite add the walls just yet.
Before! Bookshelf I had previously painted in a grey.

Then I went through millions hundreds of different scrapbook paper, wall paper and drawer liner I had in my office for each room in the dollhouse. I picked out some fun and colourful options for each room and began gluing each of them on with mod podge.
The drawer liner was definitely the easiest to apply without lines or bubbles like the scrapbook paper had.

Before the walls.

Lastly, I attached the walls with small pieces of scrap wood on each side of the walls with small nails.

Mini chalkboard, small painted furniture and tassels for the finishing touches.

All finished! Car and furniture added.

Complete. :)

Now it's time for me to get back to putting all our Christmas decorations away before our weekend starts.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend and it's back to work for me on Monday!

2014

Happy New Year to all!

As I had mentioned in my previous post, I want to go over my goals for the blog, business and my personal life for the year of 2014.

Blog goals:

  1. Post at least once a week.
  2. Redesign our website with easy navigation and a better layout.
  3. Reach out to other bloggers with similar taste and ideas.
  4. Look into making money off of our website/blog.

Business goals:
  1. Refinish the rest of the furniture we have in storage and sell it.
  2. Take on only a couple projects at a time when working full time.
  3. Enter into some Home/Wedding shows to sell refinished furniture and rent out wedding decor.
  4. Organize the workspace.
  5. Post more projects onto Facebook page.

Personal goals:
  1. Most importantly, stay happy and healthy!
  2. 52 week money challenge. Did this last year and was able to go on two trips!
  3. Maybe to go with the last goal, finally buy the camera and lens that I have wanted for over two years. I really enjoy photography.
  4. Finally achieve our dream jobs.
  5. Follow the words below.

Bring it on, 2014!
Love, B

Cheers to 2013!

Well, that year went by super fast! How many times have you heard that? Seriously though, it really did go by fast.
2013 was a very busy year filled with weddings, babies, projects, vacations, new jobs and so much more! It was also filled with some not so much fun times but I will keep to the positives in this post!

Simply Chic Decor had a pretty good year filled with many wedding rentals and several furniture makeovers including one made into a dollhouse, which I will be sharing with you lovely people on Friday!

As for my personal life, I would love to share 13 of my favourite memories this year!

Winter Wedding!

Hey!

It feels great to get back on here and do some regular blog posts in the next couple of weeks again. With all of our Christmas/New Year celebrations finishing up in the next couple of days, I may have some extra time to get some much needed projects finished and our home somewhat organized.

Over the past couple seasons I have done a post on what I think would be some great ideas for upcoming weddings in the particular time of year. Not all of them are necessarily affordable or feasible but it is fun to plan out an imaginary wedding in a matter of a couple hours. ;)

Enjoy!

Melissa & Brad's Furniture!

Good Evening!

About a year ago I did a draw for a free coffee table that I refinished in white and my dear friend, Melissa won it! (Shown below)

Recently Melissa and Brad were married and moved out into a new place together and needed some more furniture to furnish their new home. Melissa found some great side tables that match the coffee table and I had a pretty, vintage desk that I didn't need anymore so I put a little extra love into it for them. ;)

Here are the before and after pictures of the side tables. I refinished them in the same white as the coffee table and lightly distressed them.

Below is the desk I refinished with a little surprise when you open the drawers.

Purple!

Happy Monday!

Love, B
